Creative Action
One of the ways that Free Minds removes barriers to higher education for adults is by providing a youth development program for students’ children through Creative Action. This program is offered at no cost to Free Minds students. Children ages 5 to 17 whose parents are enrolled in the Free Minds humanities course are welcome to attend the Creative Action class from 6:00 – 8:30 pm on class nights.
The mission of Creative Action is to spark and support the academic, social, and emotional development of young people.
Creative Action classes feature:
- A healthy evening meal
- Group activities and games
- Homework time
The program curriculum also includes:
- Humanities lessons that run parallel to the Free Minds adult curriculum
- Field trips to UT campus
- Art and performance projects
- Team-building
Creative Action is a nonprofit, arts-based, youth development organization that provides fun, hands-on creative learning programs in the classroom, in after school settings, and in the community. Creative Action uses the arts to actively engage students to explore age-appropriate social issues, build appreciation for diversity and learn how to make a positive difference in their communities.
